Alation Term Creator: Easily Add Terms to Your Catalog
The Alation Term Creator is a Chrome extension that allows catalog admins to seamlessly add important terms to their catalog while working with reports, spreadsheets, and documents. With this extension, there's no need to navigate to the catalog interface separately.
The Term Creator extension provides a low-friction way to capture knowledge by allowing admins to pick a term template and glossary during their normal workflow. It is compatible with both Alation on-prem and managed cloud configurations, and it meets all Google Chrome Store security requirements.
During the beta period, the Term Creator offers a free seven-day trial. To use the extension, catalog admins will need to provide their catalog API refresh token and catalog admin user ID, which can be found in their profile.
To set up the extension, simply download and load the unpacked extension using the Chrome browser's Manage Extension feature. Pin the extension for easy access and use the extension options to sign up for the beta and verify your free account. Then, add the catalog URL, refresh token, and catalog admin ID in the options window.
Using the Alation Term Creator is straightforward. Just click the extension icon, enter the new term name, add an optional description, and select the term template and glossary where it should be created. The new term will be instantly added to the glossary, and admins can navigate to the glossary to view it.
For those who require a review and approval process for new terms, the Term Creator supports a new term workflow that can be triggered using the Alation Governance app.
